When you think of Waiheke Island, you think of wineries, olive oil, and above all, the beautiful sea!
Touring wineries is one of the unique ways to enjoy this island, but if it's a sunny summer day, you can take a packed lunch with you, eat at one of the island's delicious burger restaurants (my recommendation is TOO FAT BUNS, chosen as the best burger in Auckland. Personally, I think it's just as delicious as Fergburger in Queenstown!) or get some takeout fish and chips, and enjoy a relaxing picnic by the sea with some beer or wine. Since you've come all this way, why not go for a swim? I think that's another way to enjoy the resort of Waiheke Island.
This time, we will introduce you to some beaches that you should definitely visit when you come to Waiheke Island, which is recommended for picnics and swimming.
1. Onetangi Beach

Onetangi Beach is a spectacular white sand beach that stretches for about 2 kilometers, the largest on the island, located about 20 minutes by car from Matiatia Ferry Pier. The waves are higher here than in the area around Oneroa, the island's central town, so some people enjoy windsurfing on windy days. At the hidden spots that only locals know about, which I introduce on my tours, you can get a great view of Onetangi Beach from above. I'll take some memorable photos at the scenic spots;)
If you're lucky, you might even see dolphins or orcas! This is one of the places you should definitely visit when you come to Waiheke Island.

2. Little Oneroa Beach

Many people visit the island and go to Oneroa Beach, which is the closest beach to the town center, but Little Oneroa Beach, which is a little further from Oneroa Beach, is small and cozy, and there is a cute daily shop and a fish and chips takeaway shop near the sea, so it is my favorite beach. The waves are not that high, so it is safe for children, and I swim here every day in the summer. lol
The 15-minute walking course from Oneroa Beach to this beach also has a great view from above. Locals call Oneroa Beach Big O and Little Oneroa Beach Little O. Just between you and me, the best hidden spot is a small hidden beach (my friends and I call it Little Little O lol) between Oneroa Beach and Little Oneroa Beach. There are almost no people around, and this private beach is great for swimming! You can also see schools of small fish and snappers around the rocks!

On summer weekends, many tourists come by boat, and you can see some tourists diving into the sea from the boat. The recently renovated children's playground is also very popular with children!

3. Enclosure Bay

Enclosure Bay is a special secret spot that locals want to keep secret. There is a bus service, but it takes about 20 minutes to walk there, so it's best to go by car. If you'd like, I can take you on a tour !
It's a quiet beach with almost no waves, so it's a great place to enjoy snorkeling, SUP, and fishing.
4. Palm Beach-Little Palm

Palm Beach is loved by locals and is also full of tourists during the season. The waves are not too high and the water is clear, so it's a fun place to swim.
There are restaurants and daily stores nearby, and a space for barbecues in front of the beach, so it's always bustling with locals.
This small, private beach at the back of Palm Beach is also a nudist beach that only a few people know about!

These are the recommended beaches in Waiheke selected by Prime Tour Megumi!
The days are long in the summer here (from around December to March) and it's light until around 8pm, so if you've come all the way here, a great idea would be to relax on the beach after the tour and watch the sunset while drinking a beer!
Since this is a privately run tour, I am willing to be flexible in tailoring the tour content to suit each client.
If you would like to be dropped off at the beach during or after the tour, please let us know :)
